Stock Burger Co, Brighton – Review

So new you can almost still smell the fresh paint, Stock Burger Co is a stylish restaurant, tucked into the corner of the Holiday Inn hotel.  Situated on Brighton Seafront, the location is great and I expect the evening view will be lovely once summer arrives.  Parking around the hotel is limited but we did manage to find a space.  We were greeted on the door by a friendly waitress who showed us to our table and brought us olives whilst we perused the menu.

We chose shrimp fritters and chilli chicken sticks to start and I also just had to try one of the gorgeous-sounding alcoholic milkshakes.  After much deliberation, I went with the Nutella and Baileys shake and it was honestly the nicest drink I have ever had.

I would have been happier with a plastic straw rather than the paper effort as it was surprisingly tricky to drink through, but the drink itself was perfect.  Our starters arrived quickly; there was a slight mix up with mine but the issue was rectified swiftly and with a smile.  Both starters were really tasty and a good size.

We ordered our main courses at the same time as the starters and expected them to follow fairly promptly but, unfortunately, there was a rather long delay.  We waited just over an hour for them to be delivered to our table, and I assume that the issue was a teething problem in the kitchen as the waiting staff were very attentive and incredibly apologetic about the wait.  We enjoyed drinks and were able to have a nice chat during this time, which is a rarity as mealtimes are usually spent at home with the children!  Eventually, our burgers arrived and were really yummy.  We were given a choice of fries when ordering, including courgette and sweet potato; it made a lovely change to have something different.

Having enjoyed our burgers – I had the Stock Burger whilst James opted for the veggie Portobello – we ordered dessert.  Again, there was a long wait but again, the issue was alleviated by the staff.  James had coffee and I had a rum and vanilla milkshake (I swear I could live on those shakes!) and we relaxed and talked about our upcoming holiday.  During the wait for dessert, my Dad sent a message to say that the boy was still awake and not feeling too good.  We informed the staff and our desserts were brought out within minutes, meaning we were able to sample them before rushing home.

Overall, we had a really nice evening.  It was lovely to be out on a date night, our first since October, the food was great, the staff were friendly and efficient, and the restaurant was fresh and exciting.  Yes, there were delays on the food but I truly believe this was a hiccup that will be rectified as the place gets to grips with being open to the public – it is only a week old, after all.

If you’re in Brighton, we definitely recommend a visit to the Stock Burger Co and I urge you to try the incredible milkshakes before you leave!

We received a complimentary meal for two in exchange for an honest review.
