The Runnymede-on-Thames Hotel and Spa

IMG_4940.JPG

We spent a night at the Runnymede-on-Thames Hotel and Spa a few weekends ago now, and my overwhelming memory of the place is that there was such great attention to detail in the hospitality stakes. I really would have loved to stay another night to make full use of the facilities. As it was, we arrived late on Saturday afternoon and had to leave mid-morning on Sunday. Such is life. We were provided with a private chalet-style residence for the night with a private front door and its own parking space, which was a nice touch.

As soon as we entered the reception of the main hotel to check in, it was evident that children are well catered for at the Runnymede as each of mine were presented with a cute stuffed duck – a lovely reminder of their stay.

Inside our chalet, we were delighted to find a separate room for the children to share, a lovely bathroom, and a huge bed, a dining table and chairs, and a sofa in the main room. Thoughtful personal touches were abundant, from complimentary tea, coffee and water to gorgeous toiletries and even chocolates on pillows!

Everything was immaculate and beautifully presented, from the toiletries to the tea and coffee-making station.

The bed was huge and the most comfortable thing I have ever slept on. We would have happily taken it home with us.

We had plenty of space to relax and the view from our room was beautiful.

The children were more than happy with their own private bedroom, particularly as it had its very own television!

With the windows of the chalet open, it was clear that the hotel is on a flight path as planes passed over head rather noisily every few minutes. This did slight to detract from time spent outside, but once the windows were closed, we weren’t disturbed by noise indoors.

We explored the grounds before dinner, taking a lovely stroll alongside the Thames before returning onsite. We were a little disappointed that the outdoor pool and playground were both locked but hoped to use them the following morning.

After a brilliant night’s sleep, we woke to the sound of rain, unfortunately. However, there is a spa at the Runnymede, including an indoor pool, which James and the children made good use of. My children are both water babies so this really added to their experience and they did not want to leave!

We had a lovely stay at the Runnymede and the children have been nagging us to go back! If you are tempted, standard double rooms are available from ¬£142.50 per night, based on a minimum two night stay. Chalet-style duplexes will cost extra; it’s worth calling the hotel on 01784 220961 with your requirements.

We were provided with a complimentary night’s stay at the Runnymede for the purposes of this review; all words and photographs are our own.
