As a travel-loving family, we enjoy getting out and about, seeing new places, exploring and adventuring together and, while it can be nice to fly to exciting new cities, nothing beats a great British road trip. We are so lucky in this country to have so much to see and do right on our doorstep, from hills and mountains to seemingly endless miles of stunning coastline.
We have been on many road trips, our favourites to Pembrokeshire, Cornwall, and Portland. Of course, what these places have in common is gorgeous, dramatic coastline, which is a family favourite when it comes to places to explore.
From ancient churchyards to hidden coves and rocky shores, Portland had it all and was my absolute favourite trip of the past 12 months (and we’ve been to Greek Islands twice this year!).
Living on the South Coast already means we are not too far from Dorset, Devon or Cornwall, though they are too far to go just for one day. We often make a weekend or half term of it, stopping at a local Travelodge for great value accommodation – visit My Voucher Codes for great offers to further reduce the cost.
In the future I would love to visit York and Scarborough, Liverpool and the Lake District… There are just so many wonderful places to explore in the UK, the tricky part is knowing where to head to next! And if you have not yet taken a road trip with your children, I can definitely recommend the South West as a fantastic starting point…
