Cast a glance outside my window right now and you would struggle to believe me but summer has arrived, technically, and the days until school breaks up are well and truly numbered. Summer holidays are a great time to explore with the kids and, hopefully, should provide some colourful backdrops when it comes to taking photos. I tend to take a few similar shots each year, at the same location, to illustrate how much my children have grown. It’s a fun thing to do and can result in some gorgeous photos, given the right location.
Here are my top four summer photo opportunity locations:
On a bright, sunny day, few places can beat the beach for photography potential, particularly if it’s a candid shot you’re going for. If you’re not fortunate enough to live by the sea, perhaps you have a beach holiday or even day trip planned? A good camera is a must on a sunny day; click here for some great deals on Canons.
Up a Hill
If you won’t be able to make it to the seaside this summer, perhaps you could plan a walk up a big hill, which, in my experience, always makes for some great photos of the kids, albeit often a little red in the face and sweaty!
This is one I have personally wanted to do for years and hopefully will get round to actually doing this year. I have been inspired almost entirely by the lovely Katie at Mummy Daddy Me who, as you can see above, takes wonderful photographs of her children with lavender fields as a backdrop every summer. The purple of the lavender makes for such a unique photograph – get this one right and it would make a perfect canvas to hang up at home or gift to grandparents.
As with the lavender the “yellow flowers” as we call them (ie Rapeseed fields) make for beautiful photos largely because of the gorgeously colourful backdrop. These photos just scream summer to me – how can you be uncheered in sea of lemon?!
Do you have any great ideas for summer photo opportunities with the kids? I would love to hear them!
