Spring Fashion Wishlist

Having endured several wet weekends on the bounce, as well as bouts of ‘flu and colds aplenty, I think it is fair to say my tolerance of winter is well and truly depleted.  It has felt long, cold and difficult this year, for many reasons, and I am very much looking forward to Spring raising its sunny head.  I am hopeful of brisk, bright family walks, less mud on the football field (yes, Sonny is now obsessed with the beautiful game) and, sadly, optimal clothes-drying weather. With the advent of a new season comes the opportunity to rejuvenate a jaded wardrobe, injecting fresh colour and style.  Volunteering in a school means dressing for the job you want (at least it does in my case) and I would like my style to reflect this more over the coming months.  I have been browsing for new staples to add to my depressingly sparse collection. Layers still being an integral part of the British Spring (and beyond, let’s be honest), I have been in search of jumpers and …

Back to School Shopping with Love the Sales

With two weeks of the summer term left, I am almost ready for the children to go back to school in September; well, practically, anyway.  I have new school bags and book bags lined up, uniform bought and paid for, and even lunch boxes and drinks bottles in mind.  My plan is to be ready for September by the time they break up for summer so we can make the most of the time together and firmly put school out of our minds.  There is one area I leave to the last possible minute, however, and that is school shoes and trainers.  We all know how quickly children’s feet can grow, so buying shoes for September at the end of July just seems silly.  I leave it until the last week of the summer holidays to get them measured and fitted for trainers and school shoes. This year, I intend to have Jasmine measured in town and then buy her school shoes from Love the Sales.  I have my heart set on these Kickers shoes: …

Kids Christmas Day Fashion Haul

I think there is something so special about dressing up at Christmas time, but I also feel it is a perfect opportunity to relax, as we rarely have the time during our busy lives. This Christmas Day, my children will have new onesies to wear indoors, with festive socks too. My favourites are this gorgeous Fairisle onesie from John Lewis and these Santa socks from FatFace. We aren’t planning on going further than the beach for a brisk walk this Christmas Day so won’t be dressing up as such, but new clothes will feature. For the children, I love these comfy Converse joggers and matching Converse shoes, all topped off with a Boden Christmas jumper. And for me? Well, I wouldn’t say no to a gorgeous new SuperDry coat! Do you dress up for Christmas Day? Let me know in the comments.

Roles Models in Music and Fashion

For decades, some of the biggest names in music have also been fashion icons; thinking specifically about two huge names who sadly died this year, Bowie and Prince, their fashion statements are almost as memorable as their music. For many years, these two stars have inspired and influenced young people when it comes down to what to wear, and since the 90s, newer bands and pop stars have also had plenty of fashion followers. For me, it was the Spice Girls during the mid 90s – I really wanted to be Baby Spice and had the white platforms and everything. Great look for a 10 year old! This infographic from Gear4DJs shows some even more modern examples:    Whilst some of these styles are a little more out there than others, they are all quite adult and it is worrying to remind oneself that all of these stars have been role models to children at one stage or another. However, remembering how I felt about Baby Spice all those years ago, when I was desperate …

Spring Fashion Wishlist

I got sunburnt for the first time this year on Saturday, which can mean only one thing – I’m still ginger! Oh, and spring is definitely on its way. I’ve started looking at some new spring/summer wardrobe essentials for the children and am really excited by what’s out there. I’ve also been sneaking a peek at a few items that I would like, including gorgeous new trainers, sunglasses, and staple clothing items. Here are my favourites: Skechers trainers, £39.99 I have loved Skechers shoes since I was gifted my first pair at the age of about 12 and would really like a shiny new pair this spring. These would be ideal – I love the accents of colours and know they would get a lot of use.   Sunglasses by Tom Ford, £129.99    I am so bad for squinting as soon as it is anything like sunny so really need to invest in a decent pair of glasses; these are so gorgeous, I love the summery design and tinted lenses. Simple, stunning, unfortunately over …
