Christmas Party Season

Over the weekend, December arrived and brought with it the unspoken assurance that it is now wholly acceptable to talk about Christmas.  Suddenly, BOOM, it’s everywhere.  My social media feeds are chock-full of advent calendars, Christmas trees, Santa visits, cheeky Elf antics and all the other assorted paraphernalia that comes with Christmas.  My calendar has also just exploded.  We don’t have a weekend free between now and the big day; we have pantomime tickets, breakfast with the big man himself and, of course, Christmas meals and parties galore.  It is all very exciting (if a tad overwhelming) but I am left with the constant anxiety over what, exactly, to wear for each occasion. For me, festive jumpers cover the majority of occasions and can be funny, pretty or even stylish depending on your requirements and what you team them with.  Myself and the children own a few each and wear them for our pantomime trips and anywhere we might bump into Santa!  For those occasions where a little more sophistication is needed, I tend to opt …

Designer Clothes for Children

Clothing a child is expensive business, not least because they simply will not stop growing!  It is especially difficult as they get older and start taking an interest in fashion and what their peers are wearing.  Gone are the days, then, when a £2 George at Asda top will do (sadly).  Thoughts turn to the more exclusive, more expensive brands – Zara, Monsoon, Superdry, Jack Wills, Stone Island Kids. I don’t think I’ve ever owned any designer clothing in my life – my Mum resolutely ignored my teenage pleas for PunkyFish jeans and Quiksilver hoodies – and I’m honestly not bothered by labels myself these days.  I find the styles are never quite what I’m drawn to anyway, and if that wasn’t enough to put me off, the prices certainly would be!  However, when it comes to the kids, I’m afraid I do like to spoil them rather.  Don’t get me wrong, they certainly don’t get everything they ask for, but I try my best to give them the things they really want (after all, where’s the …

Kids Summer Wardrobe Ideas

Summer is fast approaching, which can only mean one thing – shopping!  With a diary full of summer events and escapades, including a weekend at the fabulous Camp Bestival, I am so excited to bring the kids’ wardrobes bang up to date with some gorgeous new clothes. Dressing your little ones for different activities throughout the summer can be challenging, not to mention costly!  Whether you’re on the guest list to a fancy wedding (check!) or have planned a little trip abroad (double check!) — I’ve teamed up with River Island to bring you this life-saving style guide for all occasions. Summer Weddings Styling children for a wedding was once quite restrictive, but not anymore.  Forget finding the perfect suit — there are plenty more child-friendly options.  You know your child better than anyone else and it’s guaranteed that they’ll be on the dance-floor all night long so comfort is key. Boys Summer weddings make for the perfect opportunity to experiment with the little man in your life and create a versatile outfit for both the day and evening …

Spring Fashion Wishlist

Having endured several wet weekends on the bounce, as well as bouts of ‘flu and colds aplenty, I think it is fair to say my tolerance of winter is well and truly depleted.  It has felt long, cold and difficult this year, for many reasons, and I am very much looking forward to Spring raising its sunny head.  I am hopeful of brisk, bright family walks, less mud on the football field (yes, Sonny is now obsessed with the beautiful game) and, sadly, optimal clothes-drying weather. With the advent of a new season comes the opportunity to rejuvenate a jaded wardrobe, injecting fresh colour and style.  Volunteering in a school means dressing for the job you want (at least it does in my case) and I would like my style to reflect this more over the coming months.  I have been browsing for new staples to add to my depressingly sparse collection. Layers still being an integral part of the British Spring (and beyond, let’s be honest), I have been in search of jumpers and …

Back to School Shopping with Love the Sales

With two weeks of the summer term left, I am almost ready for the children to go back to school in September; well, practically, anyway.  I have new school bags and book bags lined up, uniform bought and paid for, and even lunch boxes and drinks bottles in mind.  My plan is to be ready for September by the time they break up for summer so we can make the most of the time together and firmly put school out of our minds.  There is one area I leave to the last possible minute, however, and that is school shoes and trainers.  We all know how quickly children’s feet can grow, so buying shoes for September at the end of July just seems silly.  I leave it until the last week of the summer holidays to get them measured and fitted for trainers and school shoes. This year, I intend to have Jasmine measured in town and then buy her school shoes from Love the Sales.  I have my heart set on these Kickers shoes: …
