Home Rejuvenation this New Year

Once Christmas has passed, my thoughts always turn to spring cleaning, decluttering and generally sprucing up the house. I like to refresh tired fabrics, repaint walls, wash carpets and soft furnishings and sometimes even move furniture around to create an entirely new look. With the Christmas decorations packed away and the tree taken down, the lounge always looks bigger and brighter and so usually needs minimal attention. I like to give the paint another coat to last through the year, and bring in new bright cushions, like this one from Zazzle, to breathe fresh life into the room. The bedrooms take more consideration as space is minimal and I am always looking at different storage solutions that might work for us. This new year, I would like to try fitted wardrobes as our current standard ‘robes leave wasted space on top that could be utilised more effectively with an internal shelf on top of a hanging rail. With this option, we could use the full wall height for storage, which would make a big difference. …

Decorating a Shared Bedroom with Room to Grow

I love playing around with interiors, though where we currently live has limited space; with just two bedrooms, my children have no option but to share.  At present, this isn’t a problem. They are six and seven years old and spend relatively little time in their bedroom anyway.  At the moment, they have a cabin bed each, but we are redecorating at the end of the month and will be giving them bunk beds instead so we have more space for storage in the room. We love this Stompa Uno S bunkbed from Room To Grow for its style. To go with the bed, we have two of these single mattresses, which are great value and super comfortable.   As the bed frame is white, I am looking for the rest of the furniture to also be white; I have bought white shelves for books and trinkets, ordered a white bookcase, and will be choosing two wardrobes and one large chest of drawers shortly.  With white furniture, I can afford to be a little more adventurous with the walls. …

Christmas Styling

This year, we are planning a very quiet Christmas Day at home. There will be food and presents, a brisk walk, and probably some television too. We will have our first real tree, bought from the farm shop next to where James works, decorated with various things the children have made over the years. Simple, homemade style. Ideally, I would like to have the funds available to do a it more interior-wise at Christmas. I suppose ideally I would also like a big old country house to set off the style too! I love things that are a little different. For instance, this tree is unusual but still very much a tree. A creative take on a classic. I also love this one.   Lights are definitely one of the things that get me into the Christmas spirit more than anything else. My favourite pre-Christmas activity is taking the children out on their bikes to spot Christmas lights. This woodland-inspired branch light from Cox and Cox is absolutely gorgeous and something I would love to …
